Miyajima

29 maart 2017 - Miyajima, Japan

It was already time to leave Fukuoka, it was quite early in the morning when we set off towards Miyajima. The island with the famous floating torii. On the way here, I learned it's a small world after all.
Remember those two younger dudes I told you about? Seems one of em works near where I work, probably seen him before. The other one, I'm friends with his cousin.
Anyway, we arrived at Miyajima a bit after 12. Ayako was standing there with her frog plushy on a stick, which I found way better than those silly flags the other tour groups walked around with.
After petting some deer, we got some food on a stick. Which was amazingly good. One of our group tried an octopus; that looked really nasty though.
And after that, it was time to climb a mountain! ...by cablecar.

Not entirely true, the last bit we still had to do on foot. Truly an amazing view we got from atop mount Misen.

I'm feeling I'm not writing as much as I did in other stories. Maybe I'm just lazy, or maybe I truly forgot what went through my mind in these places, but in any way, I'm sorry if that's what you wanted.

Later that day we arrived at our new hotel. And a special one at that. It's called a Ryokan. And it really resembles an old Japanese home. With the low tables, legless chairs and paper windows. It reminded me of Shinchan mostly. We got to wear a Yukata here! A yukata is kind of similar to a kimono, but not entirely similar. Sad to say that I do not know the difference.
While we were all wearing our Yukata's, we enjoyed some traditional Japanese dinner. This is where I started taking pictures of food, but not of the whole dish sadly. This is however where I started liking fish. I tried my first fish here, and I really liked it!
After dinner I stepped out of my comfort zone once more and got into a hot spring bare naked! There was one inside the ryokan. Or two actually, one for women, one for men. You'd think I'd like it better if it were a mixed one, but I must say: I'm thankful it wasn't. Two reasons. 1. I had never actually exposed myself like this to anyone, and I would not want to get excited like that.. you know what I'm saying.
2. They were old! Sorry. Though I guess that would discard number 1, right?
Anyway, sitting in a hot spring was a really nice experience.
