Harajuku part 2 - Yoyogi park

16 april 2017 - Harajuku, Japan

So today I had only planned my afternoon, so I really didn’t know what to do in the morning. Which actually came in very handy as the night before, or perhaps I should say morning before. Well I guess you could say that this morning I drank beer and maybe even slept a bit, as I arrived back in my hostel around 7am or maybe it was 7:30. I can’t remember.. anyway, I had to check out before 11. Guess what! I didn’t. I’m such a rebel. Nah it was okay, they’re not as strict l, thankfully. So I probably checked out around 12 and made my way to harajuku. Again. I heardthese great stories about harajuku on Sundays, so I just had to check again. As last time I was there, it was raining really bad. This time though, the sun was out and today was the first day that I actually thought I did not bring enough clothes. I should’ve brought some shorts. Man, it was hot. So why is it, that harajuku is supposed to be this fun on a Sunday? Well.. my guess, it’s a day off for everyone! And listen to this: Japanese people love the outdoors! This really had me stunned. In the Netherlands, nobody will go outside when the sun’s out. Here, everyone is! I’ve seen children playing, but also people picnicking, drinking, dancing, playing music. It’s like a festival! Or a camping. Supposedly, it’s like this every Sunday! Atleast in spring. I always thought Japanese people were such geeks or nerds or whatever it is you call people that only play videogames inside. Boy was I wrong. I’ve talked to quite a few people as to why they’re all outside. There was this one guy practicing with his electric guitar and he told me he has to do it outside, because it would be too noisy inside. In the Netherlands you’d get a lot of complaints if you’d play outside; this is like a whole new world. Anyways, I was walking around this park, enjoying everything I see. Street performers to children playing. And I saw these kids playing with a skip rope. Is it called skip rope? I dunno. The rope thingy where you .. jump! Gotcha :D So they invited me to join them and of course I failed miserably at first. I even fell down and suddenly my pants turned into a color I’d rather not see on a pair of jeans. Lucky me it was on the outside though. In case you’re wondering, it was like a thick layer of brownish sand. So yeah, a shitty color. For quite while I stayed with these kids who actually knew English pretty well! I probably shouldn’t call m kids though as they’re about the same height as me, and if I’d shave off my beard, no one would guess that I’m actually 10 years older than most of them. Anyway, I was telling them about my travels and they would all gather around me. I really liked this part, I had my very own crowd! Oh by the way, when I fell down, nobody laughed! They all actually gasped and were really worried whether I was alright. They’re all so nice :) So after my little interview was done, we played a few games that I hadn’t done in like forever. I wish people in the Netherlands would play these games outside. It’s fun! And really, it’s not childish at all. Everyone’s doing it over there. So all these guys were having a kind of sports day. I think they were all in the same class. All of em being around 15 years old. Except for about 4 of them, who were my age. Anyway, after saying goodbye to this group, I went for another round through the park and eventually ended up with a big multicultural group.
I was walking up this hill when I heard some pretty good music, I went up to the guy playing and noticed that I had never seen that instrument before. It was a swedish harp I think. They invited me over and I stayed with these lovely people for the rest of the afternoon. Time went by really fast and eventually I got hungry, so I said my goodbyes to this group as well and made my way to the robot restaurant I heard about.
When I got there I decided I’d be a true Dutchman this evening. For the robot restaurant was really expensive and I didn’t want to spend 80 euros on a show in a restaurant that does not include food. So I walked around this place in my search for food And this guy walks up to me and says: "you want massage? Massage wizze happy ending?" And I was like "what? No!" Turns out.. I ended up in the red light district. Me and my big mouth, saying I’d be a true Dutchman today.. after I heard this, I suddenly see sex shops everywhere! And no, it wasn’t hentai, and no, I didn’t go in. That’s about all of the interesting stuff that happened today I guess, I will not bore you with stories about me napping in the train back to the hostel or making my bed, or meeting even more people. While writing this, I have no idea what I’m gonna do tonight. I might just go back to that bar. Or maybe karaoke on my own? Could be fun, right? And I still need the practice. Some other time I might write down what I did this evening. Or maybe I won’t, I’ll leave you with your curiosity. Cliffhanger! You might have noticed I wrote this story before I got back home. As I've been telling you stuff twice, and also.. there's a cliffhanger! It's true. I wrote this somewhere along the road. And because I'm too lazy, or whatever, to fix this story so it'll fit in more, I'm just going to expand it right now. But, I don't wanna mess up the story completely, so I'll try to keep the cliffhanger intact. By just keeping on writing, so I'm keeping you in suspense. And no cheating, I'll notice.I got back at the hostel after I had my foodies and as I'm no longer trying to hold you off, I'll just get to the point: I was really tired. Like I said before, I haven't really slept much today, so I just read a bit, probably wrote the first piece of this text and went to bed. And you'd best just ignore this last piece of text, it was just because of the cliffhanger. Hope I fooled at least some of you this way, making you read this entire part for nothing. I said no cheating!
