As Soon As Beerable

15 april 2017 - Tokyo, Japan

Today started off with a visit to another garden: Rikugien. This garden had a nice touch. One the others did not have: Good weather! So I wandered around for quite a while. I was just about to leave for lunch when I noticed there would be a juggler playing in a few minutes. So I took a seat!
And wow.. This guy was amazing! At first he was doing a routine with this ball made of strings, impressive, but not extraordinary. Then he started juggling, introducing some stick thingies. But after that it got really impressive. I took pictures and movies, it's better if you just watch those.
I'm not sure if movies can be uploaded to this website though.. I'm gonna try! But otherwise you'll just have to poke me later.

After that, I went to a Pokémon Centre! It's not really a Pokémon centre though.. as they did not tend to the sick creatures i've caught so far. It's actually just a store. A store full of Pokémon goodies, and statues! Or are they only called statues when they're made of stone? In that case, they were really big figurines! But I've never seen this many PokéGoodies, so many plushies! And a lot of other stuff too! And boy, was it crowded.
There was a line for the cash registers, and on the other side of the store, there was a Japanese guy holding up a sign, indicating the end of the line. Or start..
Anyway, I couldn't help not buying anything. So I bought a pokéball plushie! Fun! For throwing at people!

In the evening, there was an event ay my hostel. The Sakura hostel. This was the actual reason I came back to this one. Samurai show! Samuraiiii!
To be honest, the show was a bit amateuristic. It was kinda bad even. But I liked it anyway! The little boy in me had a great time. See what I did there?
At a certain moment, there was an audience interaction. I volunteered! I got to wield a sword and slice 5 opponents down!
At the end of the show, one of the samurai girls asked me for my name and after that.. if I was Japanese. Well.. "Koen" (or Kun like that say in Japanese) may sound a bit Japanese, and I am the right size, but still.. I don't think I really look Japanese. Do I? Apparently it was because I handled my sword so well ;)

After the show I went off for some beer. I asked a girl at the hostel where to go and she told me to go to A.S.A.B. While I made my way there, I stopped at this other bar first. There was live music! A band named Majestic Circus. Apparently quite famous in Japan, but I had never heard of them. I think they were friends with the owner. Anyway, I had one beer there and then went on my way to ASAB. Screw those periods.

Real glad I stopped at that first bar by the way, because when I arrived at ASAB and attempted to go up the stairs. Some guy next to me says: "Hey, I'm just opening up!" It was the owner! Right on time.

He lived in Sydney for a while, so his English was really good. We talked a lot and I learned quite a bit of Japanese from him. At a certain moment, he was telling me something about "Senpai" and such and this girl next to me didn't hear correctly, but she thought I said "Oppai". So she starts shouting "oppai!" "oppai!"
And I didn’t know what this meant, so I was like "huh?"
And she tried to explain it to me, not knowing any English. The bartender was just laughing all this time, seems he liked how I struggled.
So this girl kept saying "oppai! Oppai!"
And suddenly, she added a word: "no".
She pointed at herself and said "no oppai", then she pointed at another girl: "oppai!"
I'm not sure at what time I realized the meaning of the word, but I sat down next to the other girl and said a few of the lines I learned today: "oneechan, kire desu ne".

Yu was still laughing at this time, but also he was complimenting me on I think my Japanese. He turned to explain what "oppai" means, but he did so without English, even though he could speak it really well.
He kept pinching his own chest and eventually he said the word that explained it al.

Now. Let me repeat this event with English words, and afterwards you decide if Japanese people are crazy, or it’s just me who’s crazy.
So I was learning Japanese from the bartender and this girl starts shouting: "Boobs! Boobs!" Pointing at herself she says: "No boobs!" Then after she points to the other girl yelling "boobs" again, I move over to her and say she is a pretty girl.

I can only imagine how this would be back in the Netherlands. Just imagine yourself, sitting in a bar, and this random girl starts yelling about having no boobs, and when she points at someone who does, this foreign guy walks up to her and starts flirting. I love this country.

I also asked him about the lyrics of one my favorite Japanese bands: Maximum the Hormone. He didn't tell me, sadly.. Guess they were too obscure. But the No-Oppai-Girl heard me talking about them and got real excited for a moment. And that's when suddenly, Maximum the Hormone turned up on the beamer! Woohoo!

I feel like I have to tell you about mister Hayashi as well. He's another local that was at ASAB that night. A really funny dude, who couldn't really handle the beer..
I know I'm not one to talk when it comes to drinking beer. But compared to the Japanese, I'm a God!

I've been at ASAB for very long time, I might have even set a new record. I think I left the bar at 7am.. By the way, Yu told me ASAB stands for As Soon As Beerable. I'm not sure if he was messing with me, but I'd like it to be just that ;)
