Harajuku

9 april 2017 - Harajuku, Japan

I heard Harajuku is the place to be on a Sunday in Tokyo. But I should go there in the afternoon. Something I forgot to mention about yesterday, was that Tim, the writer, told me that a good place for looking at swords, would be the sword museum. This name kinda sounded like something I'd like, so I figured I'd listen to this guy.
And whaddaya know, it's near Harajuku. I think. I also think I forgot to mention we talked about swords, but anyway, I already wrote this down now, so I'll just stick to this story.

So I went to Harajuku! To the sword museum! It took me quite a while to get there, it was pretty far away from my new hostel. But eventually I got there. Only to find out, it was closed down. And relocated. Won't open until 2018. Fuuuck.. There goes my morning plan, so an afternoon of Harajuku.. wasn't really that inviting anymore, it was still early, but raining. So waiting for the morning to pass, was not really something I looked forward to.
Anyway, I thought I'd take a look, right now. Cherry blossoms were still up there, but.. the leaves were already falling down. Which was sad, in a way, but in a different way, it was really cool. It actually kind of looked like it was snowing. The white petals flying everywhere and covering the pathways. I've seen worse days in the rain. Anyway, Harajuku. It's supposed to be really crowded on Sundays, as everyone is free from work. And yeah.. there were some people at this park, picnicking in the rain. But nothing really special.
There was a shrine nearby as well, seemed crowded enough to go and take a look. I thought I could maybe spend the morning there and check whether the park (and weather) would get better. It didn't.
So I went to Ueno park. Why Ueno park? Because that was the original schedule for our first day in Tokyo, with the group that is. So I thought it would probably be worthwile. And.. There was a musuem here, with swords!
It was way more crowded in this park, and lots of cherry blossom trees! Yaay!
So I walked around here for a while and eventually ended up at Tokyo National Museum. I got there pretty late, so I didn't get to check everything. But that's alright, I only came here for the swords anyway.
Though there was a garden... which was closed an hour back.
Funny thing about musea in Japan: You're allowed to take pictures! Not everything, though, but most.
And I actually learned a bit about swords too! Later that day, I followed a touristic route back to my hostel. There was a temple nearby. It probably still is, though.

Oh! And I almost forgot! Tonight I was going for karaoke again! With Yuki, and the girl from Chili we met at the hostel. We were supposed to meet at Tokyo Hostel (where I stayed yesterday) and the we'd walk over to the karaoke place. Should be nearby.
So I got there a little before 8 and texted both Yuki and Marcella. Yuki arrived quite soon, but Marcella wasn't there yet, and didn't respond on my text message. We gave her some time as she was probably sleeping. As yesterday, she told us she really wouldn't be able to sleep after the concert.
Eventually we gave up and went to the karaoke box with just the two of us. While we were walking there, I recognized everything.. This was the exact same path I took while walking from my hostel, to his! The karaoke bar was right next to my hostel! Damnit.
Anyway, we were singing for like an hour when suddenly, we got message from Marcella. She, and her friends joined us not much later. Apparently, they got tickets for a second show of their favorite band. Who can blame them for being late? This night I found a new favorite karaoke song. I don't know if it sounded right, but I liked it! You probably won't believe me when I tell what song it is, though. I found it on this list at the karaoke box. In the top ranked English songs.
It was "Let it go"! From Frozen! :D

Needless to say. Karaoke was awesome. Add another 5 hours to the total time spent in karaoke ;)
