Take a hike

13 april 2017 - Nikko, Japan

Today, in Nikko. I was on my own. Stephanie and Emily needed a bit of a rest, Tony was already gone to see the temples, and Kelly had to go catch a train this morning.
I actually forgot about Celia and Jessica, but I hung out more with the other 4, and that rhymes so now I want another word ending in ore. Done.

I asked Scout for a good hiking trip. And he probably told me the same story as the day before. The hike we were supposed to do.. This time I did pay attention, though. While eating another delicious breakfast: French toast, with bacon.
I got off the bus at Ryuzu falls; a waterfall that should resemble a dragon. I've got a big imagination, but I could not find a dragon at the time.. Maybe it's because I didn't see the sign saying it's a dragon until after I had been to the waterfall. And looking back at the photos.. my photography skills suck once more.

I started walking this path I believed was the 'red track'. But there weren't really any signs indicating I was on the right track. I just kept on walking though, just following the river. After a little while I arrived at a gate. I thought I took a wrong turn. Gates are usually bad. But it seemed to some kind of warning about wildlife.
Luckily, Scout told me the bears were still hibernating, so I went through the gate!

I could try and describe what I saw today. And tell you how beautiful it was. But I think it's best if you'd just take a look at the pictures, because there's no way that I can describe it any better than a picture. There's only one thing I could say about this hike, I think. And that's the snow. There was a LOT of snow. Something I did not expect at all. There were a few times that I thought I got lost, as I didn't see the path anymore. It was covered in snow. Occasionally you'd find a hole in the ground, indicating someone had misstepped.

Back at the hostel, Scout offered me a whiskey. Oh and we also had Sake. Which apparently is not a Japanese word! The girl at the shop didn't understand when I asked for Sake. Had to look it up in my shiny book. Nihonshu, I think it was. Japanese Sake.
Anyway, the previous few sake's that I had, I didn't really like.. This one was good though. And so was the whiskey! I never had any whiskey that I liked. And Scout didn't want to tell me the name of the whiskey before I tried it. It was a really cheap one.. But good! King!
